Annual events 
Cleaning residental areas in May
Every May we organize a cleaning event in the residential areas. The aim is to clear public areas such as small forests from the waste revealed after winter. May 2010 nearly 14 000 citizens including school children participated this event.
Exterminating Mugwort and Giant Hogweed
The aim of the Mugwort exterminating competition is to reduce the allergens of mugwort from the residential areas. The competition will reward the best teams exterminating mugwort within one week. Citizens can inform JAPA ry the growing places of the Giant Hogweed in the Jyväskylä area. We also inform people of its dangers.
European Mobility Week
Annually from 16 to 22 September the European cities and towns will have the opportunity to participate to the most widespread event on sustainable mobility, the European Mobility Week. In Jyväskylä the week culminates in Car Free Day event on 22.9 organized by JAPA ry.
National Energy Saving Week and Buy Nothing Day
National Energy Saving Week is celebrated annually in October. We inform citizens during the week of energy saving and activate people in energy conservation with different challenges and competition. We also inform about the International Buy Nothing Day in November.
JAPA ry 
What is JAPA?
Japa meaning Jyväskylän Asukkaiden Paikallisagenda ry.
We are a non-profit and a politically independent association promoting sustainable development. The association is set up by inhabitants of local residential areas of Jyväskylä. Our goal is to get a sustainable way of life for the residents into their everyday lives.
Our activities include planning and implementation of various sustainable development-related projects and events. We work in close co-operation with local residents' associations and the city of Jyväskylä .
The association's title JAPA comes from Finnish words meaning "The Local Agenda of the citizens of Jyväskylä". Local Agenda refers to the level of local sustainable development agenda. In 2003 city council of Jyväskylä granted us an authorization to do and implement the local Agenda work in the city of Jyväskylä.
Other activities 
Other activities
In recent years we have been dealing a lot with recycling and reducing the amount of waste. This we have done with close co-operation with the city of Jyväskylä. The main actions have been training volunteer waste advisors and giving recycling information to pre-school children.
We have also been campaigning against general vandalism.
